At some point in Quito, I lost my little travel alarm clock. I was annoyed, but it wasn´t that big a deal at the time. I mean, at that point I was just hanging around the city and taking salsa lessons.
Fast Forward to Riombamba. The only reason I came all the way to this town, was to ride on the infamous "Nariz Del Diablo" (Nose of the Devil) train ride. You are allowed to sit on the roof and it´s suuposed to have amazing views and a series of hair raising switch-backs along the mountain.
I got to Riombamba Friday night and bought my ticket for the 7am Sat. morning ride. The train only runs 3 days a week. The ticket cost $11! This was shocking considering the bus rides are usually $1 per HOUR.
Sat. morning arrives. BEEP goes Sarah´s substitute alarm clock (her IPOD). And again one minute later. BEEP. Sarah´s brain does not register either of these miniscule noises. Sarah wakes up at 7:30.
I missed the train! Boo. Boo. Booooo. Goodbye $11 dollars. You could have paid for two nights in a hostal. I spent the rest of the morning packing up my bag and then going to buy an overpriced watch with an alarm. A very LOUD alarm.
Now I´m off to Baños because I don´t want to wait around until the next train leaves 3 from now. Who needs the "Devil´s Nose" anyway?

Hi Sarah!
I still can't believe that you're related to me...could there have been a switch at the hospital?
